Tamer Kotb’s path to filmmaking was never a straight line — it was the journey of a man who found himself in everything he studied.

It began at the Faculty of Science, Alexandria University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Chemistry. Yet even then, he was writing about art and artists for Egypt’s press — a mind wired for logic, drawn irresistibly toward creativity.

He rose quickly in journalism to become Arts Editor at Akhbar Al-Iskandaria, then at Akhbar Al-Gomhoria — two of Egypt’s major newspapers. For over many years, he observed the arts industry from the inside: following films, interviewing artists, analyzing performances, shaping cultural coverage.

But all along, he carried a different dream: not just to write about this world — but to build something within it.

After a distinguished journalism career, Tamer Kotb made his boldest move: starting over in a new discipline at a stage of professional maturity.

He immersed himself in the study of acting and its instruction — not as a performer in the traditional sense, but as someone determined to understand the craft at its roots. He researched and applied the world’s leading acting methodologies: Stanislavski, Meisner, Michael Chekhov, Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Laban, Lecoq, and Brecht — then synthesized them into his own original framework.

He founded “Fonoon Academy” in 2020 as an independent training entity, and began applying his methodology in practice. Later, he chose to ground this work in formal academic credentials: he enrolled at the Arab School of Cinema & Television (Academy of Arts) and graduated with Distinction. He then completed his debut short film, The Sewing Needle (2025) — writing, directing, acting, shooting, editing, and mixing sound entirely on his own — registering it on IMDB and FilmFreeway, and obtaining membership in the Egyptian Cinematic Professions Syndicate.

What distinguishes Tamer Kotb as a coach is not just field experience — it’s a written methodology developed over years of research and application.

“Theatrical Foundation” Training Series — 3 Books

Book 1 (Beginner): Workshop on Building the Theatrical Foundation — liberating the actor’s physical, vocal, and mental instruments.

Book 2 (Intermediate): Workshop on Analysis and Theatrical Methodology — moving from spontaneity to professionalism through action logic and character analysis.

Book 3 (Advanced): Workshop on Mastering Theatrical Performance — full command of the emotional and physical apparatus for consistent, sustainable performance.

A parallel series on cinematic acting methodology is currently in development.

Core Philosophy

“Acting is the art of mastering the actor before mastering the performance.”

The methodology is not a set of recipes — it is an open toolbox that gives each trainer and student genuine flexibility. It rests on three pillars: organic authenticity (translating dramatic action into real physical and emotional response), psychological and physical safety (embodied in a formal Safety Charter), and age adaptability (exercises designed to work across children, youth, and adults).

What began as an independent training entity is designed to become a comprehensive non-profit arts institution — bringing together under one roof: acting, singing, music, visual arts, photography, modeling, and more.

Because art is not a single discipline — it is a human language with many voices.
